The City of Ember book series, by Jeanne DuPrau, (2003) is a science-fiction fantasy series loved by students and educators alike. Many elementary, intermediate and middle schools incorporate City of Ember books in curriculum. Homeschoolers, I recommend you add this series to your required reading. The City of Ember movie came out a few years ago and now students can read the stories and follow up with the film version for comparison.
